In 2 Chron. 20, we see Jehoshaphat and the tribe of Judah being attacked from behind by a vast army. Jehoshaphat’s response in vs. 3, is what we want to look at first. Notice, when enemies we aren’t expecting, (the pandemic’s of life), sneak up from behind to destroy us, fear is the first response we often experience. It can be a disease that’s jumped on you, the unexpected loss of a family member, losing a job and it’s income, a disability that puts you into a wheelchair or assisted living. The pain, they all bring in our lives is often more than we can handle. It always seems, overwhelming and bigger than you. It’s here, that the battle begins and choices are made. It’s wise to choose your battles, when you can, BUT what do you do when the battle chooses you?
This vast army was one day’s march away and had caught all of Judah off guard. A surprise attack, that found them unprepared to defend themselves. Notice, once again Jehoshaphat’s response, vs. 4-9, he runs to the Lord God. When battles catch you off guard, where and to whom do you run? During this pandemic sneak attack, let’s run to where we should’ve been all along, in the presence of the King of Kings. It’s here, Jehoshaphat changes his focus, as he remembers how God worked in his life, and at the same time, reminds God of who He is and what He’s promised to do and be in their lives. In vs. 12, reality sets in, as his tone changes from, Lord we’ve done everything we could do in obedience to your word, BUT this one is on you, God. You told Moses, we couldn’t kill them and now they want to kill us. This is not our fault, Lord!!
It’s during time’s of fear that we need to refocus our vision and desire to hear a prophetic word from God. Up steps Jahaziel, in vs. 14, in the midst of the assembly, the spirit of the Lord fell on him and he gives a word that’s needed in America and the world today. In vs. 15 we hear, “Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed at this great horde, for the battle is not yours but Gods.” All the deaths, all the economic panic, all the global fear, might seem like a great horde that has overcome us but the Word of the Lord is, don’t fear have faith. Fear is always followed with a fight of what are we focusing on. Faith is fighting with a new focus seeing who is greater in you, than he who is in the world. Faith is learning who to trust and depend on when sneak attacks hit you from behind.
What’s needed today is real faith found in obedience to Gods word. Faith that can stand firm, hold your position, and see the salvation of the Lord. Real faith that’s found in true worship, vs. 19, they stood up to praise the Lord, the God of Isreal, with a very loud voice, “Give thanks to the Lord, for His steadfast love endures forever.” It was when Judah started to worship God that He set up ambushes against the enemy. When we worship we change our focus from the demonic horde that only want’s to destroy, to a dynamic God that only want’s to heal. Let’s learn to worship in times of worry, so God can set up ambushes against our enemies today!
Question: Are you in the middle of a fight for your life, have you lost something of great importance and value?
Key Thought: In the midst of all our battles, we must believe in the Lord our God and we shall be established, believe in the prophets, Gods word, and we shall prosper. (2 Chron. 20:20) in the year of 2020 lets watch God win our battles.
