In John 20:22, we see Jesus after speaking Shalom (Peace) over them, breathed on them saying, “Receive the Holy Spirit,” that breath was full of the power and authority His resurrection provided. This occurred the day after the sabbath, on Sunday, the day of firstfruits. Firstfruits is the day Lev. 23:9 talked about, where the Lord asked the children of Israel to forever bring the firstfruits of their harvest and offer it to God. Jesus rose from the dead on this very day, He was the new firstfruits offering. The power and authority of firstfruits is today found in the Holy Spirit that lives in you.
Firstfruit represents New Beginnings, a day of New Life in us. Firstfruits, breaks the death cycle of winter in our lives and releases the Spring cycle of new harvest. The power and authority of firstfruitfulness produces fruit in areas where nothing has grown. Fruit in the barren areas of our life that has kept us stuck for years, producing life in lifeless ground. It’s the power to take us out of our Egypt’s into our Promise Land. It was Jesus death and resurrection that has become the firstfruits of our life where that which was dead can come back to life.
But be careful you don’t become a doubting Thomas and miss your firstfruit promise. Thomas wasn’t at the crucifixion or the first entrance of Jesus into the locked upper room and now didn’t believe what the other disciples believed…in the resurrection. God’s fruitfulness always gives us second chances and the second time He shows up in the locked upper room, Thomas is there. The dialogue was simple, put your fingers in the holes put your hand in my side, Thomas’s response was “my Lord and my God.” To which Jesus says, “Thomas because you have seen Me you believe, blessed our those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
Today, let’s believe in the power and authority of firstfruitfulness. Because of the Holy Spirit, we have the power to produce the firstfruits of love, the firstfruits of joy, the firstfruits of hope. We can love where there was no love, have joy where there was no joy, hope where there was no hope. But most of all, life where there was no life. That life that was dark and hopeless full of death and despair, it’s that life the resurrection power can make new. Today, believe in the abundance God wants for you to have. Eph. 3:20,”now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us.” But remember, we have a thief that wants to take away your abundancy. John 10:10, “the thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy. I (Jesus) came that you may have life and have it abundantly.” Today, like all the disciples had to learn, let your life become a firstfruit offering as you lay your life down and surrender to Jesus and live abundantly in His resurrection power.
Question: Are you stuck in your story, unfulfilled and discouraged in your life. Feeling a lack of fruitfulness and wishing your life would change, but not knowing how to accomplish it?
Key Thought: Firstfruitfulness requires a sacrifice. Jesus Christ with His death and resurrection become our firstfruit offering. As He breathes His Holy Spirit into your life, you time, your gifts and talents, even your finances become an offering which releases firstfruits in your life. Let’s become men and woman that live in the abundancy firstfruits provide us.
